On May 3, 2024, as part of WiN Tajikistan activities for the exchange of knowledge and experience, a lecture on the topic The Art of Eloquence has been held. The speaker was Nigora Abidzhanova, head of Branch/Country representative of Tajikistan ICAP Global Health, Ph.D.
“The art of eloquence is the ability to speak with persuasiveness and beauty to influence the thoughts, feelings and behavior of others. This art has ancient roots and has been recognized as an important tool in politics, education, law, religion and other areas of life.
The first mentions of eloquence can be found in ancient Greece, where it was one of the main elements of education. Great philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle paid great attention to the development of eloquence as a mean of persuasion,” noted Nigora Nafizovna.
An important aspect of the art of eloquence is ability to control voice and gestures. Using changes in tempo, volume, intonation, and pauses helps create emotion in a speech and capture the audience's attention. It is also important to use appropriate gestures and facial expressions to emphasize key points and express emotions.
An equally important aspect is preparation and practice. Even the most talented speakers are not born ready; they develop their skills through systematic training and practice. Preparation before a performance, studying the material, rehearsing and receiving feedback help to improve the quality of performance and increase its effectiveness.
The art of eloquence is a powerful tool that can be used to achieve a variety of purposes, from persuasion and inspiration to informing and entertaining. Mastery of this art not only helps achieve success in professional and social life, but also allows to become a more confident and expressive person.
