Tajikistan Delegation Visits Uzbekistan to Strengthen CBRN Safety and Security Cooperation
Delegation from Tajikistan, led by the Director of the CBRN Safety and Security Agency Dr.Ilhom Mirsaidzoda has concluded a successful visit to Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 17 to 18 April 2024 aimed at enhancing cooperation in the fields of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) safety and security between the customs and mentioned Agency.
During the visit, the Tajik delegation, comprised of officials from the CBRN Safety and Security Agency and Customs Service engaged in extensive tours and discussions centered on the operation of Radiation Portal Monitors (RPMs) and X-ray systems at Yalama border checkpoint in Uzbekistan. These systems are critical for the prevention of illegal trafficking of radioactive materials and ensuring the safety and security of the regional supply chain.
The Director of the CBRN Safety and Security Agency expressed high regard for Uzbekistan’s integration of advanced technological tools to safeguard borders. "We are impressed by the sophisticated use of Radiation Portal Monitors and X-ray machinery here in Uzbekistan. There is a lot we can learn from each other to enhance our capabilities in managing CBRN threats," said Dr. Ilhom Mirsaidzoda.
Additionally, the delegation visited the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, where they met management and were introduced to the digitalization processes that have been implemented to streamline customs operations. This visit provided the delegation with insights into the effective use of digital technologies in customs procedures, which Tajikistan looks forward to adopting in the near future.
"The digital transformation initiatives observed today provide great learning for us, and we are eager to implement similar technologies in Tajikistan. This collaboration will undoubtedly strengthen our national security frameworks and facilitate smoother and safer cross-border transactions," Customs Staff added.
The visit not only highlighted the shared goals between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan but also set the stage for future cooperation to enhance CBRN safety and security measures on both sides of the border.
