On March 14, 2024, a round table “The Role of Women in Science” was held at the Russian Academy of National Economy, organized by WiN Russia of the international movement WiN Global. The moderator was Elena Yurievna Kireeva, dean of the Institute of Public Service and Management, professor. The event was attended by experts in the field of science, education and culture, public figures from Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The Republic of Tajikistan was represented by Sharofova Mizhgona Umedzhonovna - vice-president of WiN Tajikistan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, excellent student of healthcare of the Republic of Tajikistan, head of laboratory of Center for Research of Innovative Technologies of National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.
The round table discussed the development of women's potential in science, the formation of role and behavioral models for future generations, the creation of a personal brand of a scientist, the preservation and transfer of critical knowledge, as well as the creation of opportunities for the professional growth of women. The topic of media support was actively discussed as well. Participating speakers shared their experiences and gave examples of effective tools used to attract attention to a team or a person, helping to build an image and reputation.
The head of WiN of Russia, Evgenia Enshina, emphasized the relevance of the advanced women’s agenda in science, especially for countries with traditional culture, younger and future generations.
Sharofova Mizhgona spoke about the increasing role of women in science during the period of independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, where women were provided with enormous opportunities that contributed to their more diversified development. Women are active in most government and non-government institutions and organizations of the Republic of Tajikistan.
In her speech, Mizhgona Umedjonovna noted that the annual Message of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, emphasizes the contribution of women in science and public life of the republic. “According to statistics, women make up 49.3 percent of the country's population. Now 25 percent of the total number of civil servants, including management personnel, are women.” The number of women researchers and research experts in the Republic of Tajikistan is increasing every year. According to the latest statistical data presented recently at the scientific conference “Twenty years of study and development of naturalistic, exact and mathematical disciplines in the field of science and education for 2020-2040” held in the capital of our country, in the field of education and science of the Republic of Tajikistan, the teaching and scientific activities are carried out by 993 women - candidates of sciences, 131 doctors of sciences, 84 professors, 608 associate professors, and 1034 female assistants. The National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan employs 2 academicians, 3 Corresponding Members, 33 doctors of science, 109 candidates of science, 104 women with a PhD degree, and 294 female undergraduates.
The state policy of the government of the Republic of Tajikistan is aimed the active participation of women and girls in scientific research, various programs and technological projects, inventive work, innovation in science, and industrial development.
Along with the above, presidential grants are allocated to expand women's entrepreneurial activity. Over the past three decades, new research sites have been created for students and graduates. This support is provided in the form of domestic and international training programs, quotas, grants and scholarships, providing material and legal support for scientific activities.
Informational work among girls and women is carried out through the media, women's organizations and platforms, such as WiN Tajikistan under the CBRN Security Agency, "Committee on Women and Family Affairs" under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
