National Seminar “Developing Security Standards and Baselines for Chemical Industries in Tajikistan”
From February 26 to 28, 2024, the Regional Educational and Training Center on CBRN Safety and Security and WMD Counter-Terrorism of CBRN Safety and Security Agency of National academy of sciences of Tajikistan hosted a National Seminar “Developing Security Standards and Baselines for Chemical Industries in Tajikistan”.

Ilhom Mirsaidzoda - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Director of CBRN Safety and Security Agency of NAST in his opening remarks noted that safety and security are the main priorities at all stages of production and this seminar is aimed to exchange the knowledge and experience in the field of ensuring safety and security at chemical industry enterprises of the Republic of Tajikistan. “We have a hope that this event will be not only a source of information, but also a platform for exchanging experiences with colleagues. Together, we can create a safer and more sustainable chemical industry in the Republic of Tajikistan.”
The aim of the seminar was to train participants and provide instruction on chemicals management best practices with an emphasis on physical, technical, and cyber security measures for assessing risks and securing hazardous chemicals. The seminar provided industry partners with tools and frameworks to assess risks at chemical facilities, to determine how to prioritize needed risk mitigation measures, and understand how new circumstances change risk assessments and prioritization. The three-day training consisted of lectures and interactive exercises on chemical risk assessment and prioritization methodologies.

By the end of the seminar, participants were be able to:
• Design and implement effective chemical facility security measures, leading to improved safety and security outcomes.
• Apply chemicals management best practices with an emphasis on physical, technical, and cyber security measures for securing hazardous chemicals within their institution.
• Build connections with industry leaders and chemical associations to facilitate sharing best practices, lessons learned, and better coordination with relevant government agencies to address chemical threats.
The seminar was attended by employees of Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Committee for Environmental Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan, chemical enterprises and CBRN Safety and Security Agency.
