National Forum "Stakeholder Engagement for the Remediation of Uranium Legacy Sites in Tajikistan"
From 3 to 5 August 2023, a National Forum on "Stakeholder Engagement for the Remediation of Uranium Legacy Sites in the Republic of Tajikistan" was held at the training centre of the National Bank of Tajikistan in Gulistan city, Sughd region.
This Forum was organised with participation of more than 100 (one hundred) representatives of national and international partners, representatives of public organisations and mass media, technical working groups, radiation safety specialists and other participants from target districts of Sughd region.
The forum summarised the results of the working groups on the action plan of Istiklol town, B. Gafurov district, jamoat Gozien , and Adrasman township, which also had the opportunity to share their experience in raising public awareness before the start of remediation works at uranium legacy sites in these target areas of Sughd region.
The Director of the CBRN Safety and Security Agency of the NAST, Ilhom Mirsaidzoda highlighted that within the framework of the Regional Project " Stakeholder Engagement for the Remediation of Uranium Legacy Sites in CA Phase II" for 2022-2023, the Agency staff also conducted a number of other activities dedicated to public awareness raising on radiation safety in these target districts of Sughd region, and holding this kind of forum gave an opportunity to the representatives from Istiklol town, B. Gafurov district, jamoat Gozien and Adrasman township to express their opinions and contribute to community outreach.
The event was arranged by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe within the framework of the joint OSCE-UNDP regional project " Stakeholder Engagement for the Remediation of Uranium Legacy Sites in Central Asia" (Phase II) with the support of the European Commission.
