Official ceremony of transfer equipment to the Border Guard Service of SCNS of the Republic of Tajikistan on behalf of the US Department of Energy
On February 7, 2022, an official ceremony was held to transfer equipment to the Border Guard of the SCNS RT as part of the implementation of the National Action Plan of the Republic of Tajikistan on UN Security Council Resolution 1540.
Ilhom Mirsaidzoda - Director of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Safety and Security Agency, as a national coordinator, handed over the transceivers (radio stations) for use by employees, as well as for installation on vehicles of Border Guard Service of SCNS RT on behalf of the US Department of Energy.
This technical assistance was provided as part of the US Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence’s green border security project, which aims to strengthen the infrastructure of the Border Guard Service of SCNS RT along the border with Afghanistan.
The US Department of Energy has worked closely with the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan since 2013 to combat the smuggling of nuclear and radiological materials.
The multi-million dollar project includes special uniform, equipment for conducting operations in mountainous areas, special protective uniform for demining, night vision devices, binoculars, monoculars, transceivers (radio stations), special military vehicles, motor vehicles, mini vans with sensitive equipment to support counter-smuggling operations and to detect and interdict illegal trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials.
