The official handover of OSCE minivan vehicles to the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the NAST
In order to further strengthen Tajikistan capacities in preventing illegal proliferation of potentially dangerous chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear (CBRN) materials, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe handed over two minivan vehicles to the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan (NRSA NAST). The official handover ceremony took place in Dushanbe today with the participation of Ambassador Valeriu Chiveri and Dr Ilhom Mirsaidzoda, Director of NRSA.
Donation of the vehicles is part of the OSCE continued assistance to the Government of Tajikistan in the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004), on preventing illegal proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, their components and means of delivery.
Donated vehicles will be used by mobile assessment teams of the Tajikistan’s CBRN identification centres. The overall goal is to ensure a more coherent interaction between the national front-line agencies (border guard and customs services) and the CBRN identification centres on timely detection of potentially dangerous materials at border checkpoints.
