Training for NRSA inspectors on carrying out inspections at facilities which use the sources of ionizing radiation
The training on carrying out inspections at medical facilities, which use sources of ionizing radiation, was held in Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan (NRSA NANT) from March 5-9, 2012. An IAEA expert, Ms Zuzana Pášková from the Czech Republic, undertook a mission in Tajikistan.
During training, the following procedures were implemented:
• Certification of NRSA about awareness with IAEA requirements;
• In accordance with the requirements of the IAEA, the practical inspections were carried out at medical facilities, which use sources of ionizing radiation (Republican Center for Cardiovascular Surgery; Research Institute of Gastroenterology; State Institution "Oncology Scientific Center");
• Recommendations to inspectors have also been made on carrying out of inspections in medical sectors;
• Review of the Republic of Tajikistan legal framework in the field of inspections of facilities, which use sources of ionizing radiation;
• In comparison with the IAEA requirements, recommendations have been made to improve the Republic of Tajikistan legal framework in inspections at enterprises, which use sources of ionizing radiation;
During the mission:
• The NRSA annual inspection plan was reviewed.
• The control questions (checklists) that were used by the NRSA inspectors during inspections were examined and compared with IAEA control questions (checklists);
• Practical implementation of these checklists during inspections has been demonstrated.
• Other aspects of inspection in the Republic of Tajikistan were studied (availability of a facility license, verification of sources, monitoring of workplaces, documentation and records of exposure of patients, availability of a controlled zone, provision of physical protection of radioactive sources and individual dosimetry).
