The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency (NRSA) of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan with the support of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission held a workshop on “Support of resolution and implementation of effective regulatory review of ionizing radiation sources in Tajikistan”. Representatives of various medical institutions of the Khatlon region attended the meeting, chief physician, managers, X-ray technician and users of ionizing radiation sources of Khuroson, Yavan, Sarband, Vakhsh, Bokhtar regions, Kurgan-Tyube city, Jaloliddin Rumi and Jomi were among them.
The theoretical sessions included presentations of NRSA employees: Salomov J.A., Akhmedov M.Z, and the representative of the Health Department of the Khatlon region Ibragimov A. The seminar discussed the fundamentals of radiation safety when using sources of ionizing radiation, as well as the requirements for ensuring radiation safety during X-ray procedures. Special emphasis was given to regulatory and legal framework issues in nuclear and radiation safety fields, physical nuclear safety and the legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of radiation safety. Practical exercises on Licensing concern related to the source of ionizing radiation and the submission of documents for obtaining a license and on authorization, state control and supervision in the field of nuclear and radiological activities were undertaken. The representative of the health department at Khatlon region Abdulvohid Ibragimov familiarized participants with the condition of the X-ray equipment park of the Khatlon region.
Participants noted that this seminar helped them understand the essence of licensing and the modern requirements for ensuring radiation safety during X-ray procedures. Soon, a similar workshop planned to hold in other regions of the country.
